Timothy Conkling, a 36-year-old resident of Montrose, was shot about 10:51 a.m. Thursday in the area of 342 Ashburton Ave. in Yonkers, said Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos.

After receiving the report of a shooting, arriving officers found Conkling on the ground in a lifeless state with a single gunshot wound to his head, Politopoulos said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene as detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to begin interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance video, and processing forensic and ballistic evidence.

During the investigation, a suspect was identified and is currently in police custody; no other suspects are being sought at this time, Politopoulos said.

Conkling has been received by the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Officer for further investigation.

"The City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department offers its sincere condolences to the Conkling family," Politopoulos said.

The investigation is continuing.
